Come play! Children (2-5) and their caregivers are invited to this fun, activity-filled program presented by CPLC Parenting Arizona and First Things First. Writer in Residence Office Hours with Amy K. Nichols

The library is hosting a Writer in Residence, who will be onsite to write and provide instruction to aspiring authors. Get expert advice on your writing by booking a one-on-one appoint with the writer, or attend a public workshop to learn new skills in craft and publishing. All experience levels are welcome. Come meet our Writer in Residence and get on your way to having your own book on our shelves. 

Amy K. Nichols is the author of the young adult science fiction Duplexity series (Now That You're Here and While You Were Gone), published by Knopf Books for Young Readers. She has served as a mentor with the Your Novel Year program at the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, and has led workshops at the Piper Writers Studio. She regularly facilitates discussions and workshops for young writers at libraries and schools around the valley. Insatiably curious, Amy dabbles in art and quantum physics, and has a long list of things she wants to learn before she dies. She lives with her family in Peoria, AZ.

This program is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Express Yourself: Adult Coloring Club

The Coloring club is a relaxing way to enjoy yourself with others at the Velma Teague Branch Library.

We have hundreds of coloring pages available for you to color. Some of the more popular pages are florals, interior designs, nature, animals, eastern-inspired fabric designs, the great outdoors, botanicals, stained glass, mandalas, cityscapes, and geometricals.

We also have hundreds of high-quality colored pencils for you to use as well as a nice selection of magic markers, specialty colored pens, pastels and crayons.

The club meets on the fourth Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Velma Teague Branch Library. (March 27th, April 24th, May 22nd, June 26th, July 24th and August 28th).

For those who are more adventurous, the librarians can also show you four different coloring apps for i-pads and tablets that you might want to try.

Of course you can always bring your own projects and just enjoy our relaxing atmosphere. To aid in creating the atmosphere we play quiet instrumental music recordings during the evening.

Free Tutoring Help

Stuck on a math question? Need someone to review a paper? Do you have a child who just wants to read with someone? Foothills Library's Teen Library Council will be offering free homework help to any student who needs assistance with their homework! In addition, they will be acting as Book Buddies for any young reader who wants to practice their reading skills with someone new. They will be stationed at a table in the Youth Department and available first come, first served. "13th" Film Screening and Discussion

Come watch the documentary 13th, a Critics' Choice Documentary Award winner. A discussion of the film will follow. 

13th is an in-depth look at the prison system in the United States and how it reveals the nation's history of racial inequality. Winner of many awards, including Critics' Choice Best Documentary (TV/streaming), and Best Director Ava DuVernay.

For parents with small children who wish to attend, there will be a free and supervised open play area in the connecting room. Children must be at least 2 years old and potty trained.
